Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Mix well and allow it to marinate for about 15 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, prepare the sauce by whisking together the oyster sauce, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sugar, black pepper, and water in a small bowl. Set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the beef in batches and stir-fry for 1–2 minutes until lightly browned. Remove the beef and set aside.
  4. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the wok. Stir-fry the onion and bell peppers for 2–3 minutes, keeping them slightly crisp.
  5. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly until fragrant.
  6. Return the beef to the wok and toss everything together.
  7. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir continuously as it simmers and thickens, coating the beef and vegetables evenly.
  8. Continue cooking for another 1–2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  9. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot alongside steamed rice or your favorite noodles.
